Now, meet its bold evolution: the Active Matrix Mixer. Designed for musicians and sound explorers who demand both clarity and creative control, this version retains the iconic passive matrix architecture: five mono channels, with one input and one output each, all interconnected for endless routing possibilities.
But here’s where it gets exciting: each input features an NE553x-based preamp, delivering up to 19 dB of gain. From each center-detent potentiometer you can dial in gain from 0 to +19 dB in one direction, or 0 to +19 dB inverted in the other, offering phase inversion right at the input stage. The detented center of the pot is volume off. The preamps ensure your signal is amplified early, preserving headroom and minimizing noise critical for maintaining the integrity of your sound through the matrix’s passive attenuation (~12–13 dB).
To complement this, the outputs are buffered with NE553x op-amps, ensuring signal integrity and guaranteeing at least +6 dB of output headroom when the preamps are maxed. Powered by ±15V, the Active Matrix Mixer delivers robust performance, whether you’re splitting guitar signals to multiple pedal chains, creating intricate feedback loops, or summing modular synth patches.
